Maybe you were backing your Subaru into a parking space and hit a car next to you, or some kid knocked off your side mirror with his bicycle. No matter how your mirror got broken, if you need to replace it, you can do it at home with some basic tools. If you don't replace it, you risk getting a ticket or damaging your car further by getting in an accident.
Step 1
Open the door and pull off the interior panel with the tweeter in the corner of the door by gripping it on the sides. This is held in place by clips. Unplug the tweeter from the harness using your hands. Unclip the power mirror harness to the mirror at the same time.
Step 2
Hold the mirror with one hand, and with the other, unbolt it from the door using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket. Once it's unbolted, pull it away from the vehicle.
Step 3
Hold the replacement mirror next to the door and put the mirror wiring through the hole in the door, then slide the mirror into the mounting area. Bolt it back in place using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket and the factory hardware.
Plug in the wiring for both the mirror and the tweeter, then push the tweeter panel back in place to secure it to the door.
Things You'll Need
- 3/8-inch ratchet and socket
- Replacement mirror
